Sam Newman Story
Просмотров 29110 месяцев назад
John 'Sam' Newman. Sam was a brilliant ruckman. During his B&F years, he was averaging 20 disposals & 6 marks per game. Not dissimilar to today's best rucks who essentially play as an extra midfielder. Very agile and versatile, he was capable of playing a number of different positions. Hope you enjoy this video. Very ambidextrous; bounces the ball with his left hand but kicks with the right foot (although his left foot was more than handy, too)

    I see Billy Conn 169 lbs or 76 kilo held his own against Joe Louis.How would Billy Conn hang with George Foreman or Mike Tyson.So Rocky knocks out Joe Louis when Joe wasnt in his prime,this huge weight disadvantage doesnt add up for Billy or Rocky against some big heavy weights.If you say Billy would use speed and movement I think that could only last for so long and I dont think Rocky had the fire power of the true modern day heavy weights

    He was strong, fast and agile and could kick a goal from anywhere and as an Essendon supporter I admired his talent. No one in modern football will ever come close to his football abilities ever.

    • @fishjj76
      @fishjj76 15 дней назад

      @huddome Good question. It's hard to nominate one player. I'll say that Gordon Coventry was Collingwood's best full forward of all time. A worthy second place to John Coleman in the pantheon of full forwards.

    I'd still give the 62 Packers as Lombardi's best. But I certainly won't quibble with actual players of Lombardi. 66 was a GREAT team.

  • @RonWinters-lh7eg
    @RonWinters-lh7eg Месяц назад

    Unreal how disrespected the Packers defense of the Lombardi Era is. They were the BEST defensive unit of the 60's. Never mentioned as one of the all-time great defenses EVER. Why? They have a majority of the starters in the HOF, yet aren't considered an all-time unit? Bull. Big city bias.

    Packers won 3 in a row under Lambeau. Not under playoffs system, but 3 in a row under the rules of the game at the time.

    Bert Sugar was a f* i diot. He never liked Marciano, always had something negative to say about his fights. He was a Dempsey and Ali a ss licker. Funny how he has some serious doubts about the Marciano/Walcott II fight but he never had any about Clay´s ghost punch mafia controlled title fight against Sonny Liston.

    A leopard never changes its spots as I had my lights put out by Mad Dog Muir when we were playing in the Masters Football League in Ballarat, this was a gutless act as I was not tackling at the time and just going for the ball. He could have been a grate footballer but his stupidity got in the way

      He gave as good as he got, sometimes the racism comes back the other way. Playing aginst Fitzroy Stars in the 90's we were told to not say anything racist and yet their crowd called us housing commission scumbags. I tackled their ruck Dixie Patton to the ground and he spat in my face right in front of the umpire after I was awarded a free kick, no penalty, no report as the umps were scared of them.The door swing both ways mate.
